Wi-Fi vs. Ethernet for Gaming: Is Wireless Finally Good Enough?
The Age-Old Debate
For years, the advice has been simple: "Use a cable." But with modern Wi-Fi standards like Wi-Fi 6 and 7, is this still true?
The Case for Ethernet
Stability: Ethernet is a shielded, direct connection. It is not affected by walls, microwaves, or your neighbor's router.
Latency: Generally lower and, more importantly, more consistent (lower jitter) than Wi-Fi.
The Case for Wi-Fi 6/6E
Modern Wi-Fi has come a long way. Wi-Fi 6 introduces OFDMA, which reduces latency in crowded environments. Wi-Fi 6E adds the 6GHz band, which is like an empty highway for your data, free from interference.
The Verdict
If you are a casual gamer, modern Wi-Fi is perfectly fine. However, for competitive gaming where every millisecond counts, Ethernet is still the king. The consistency of a wired connection simply cannot be beaten by radio waves.
